Superintendent's Corner

Jami ThompsonDr. Jami Jo Thompson started her tenure as the Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools in July 2013, after an 18 year tenure with Beatrice Public Schools as a teacher and administrator. At Beatrice, she developed the district’s first inclusion program for students with disabilities and received the Milken National Educator Award.

Dr. Thompson is a certified School Improvement Specialist and a proud Panther. She wants every child to feel safe, welcome, and successful at Norfolk Public Schools. She is working with staff to ensure that all children are provided with outstanding educational opportunities that are designed to prepare them to pursue their individual goals for the future. Dr. Thompson envisions Norfolk Public Schools a top-performing school that is a source of pride and an asset to the Norfolk community.

Dr. Thompson is proud to serve as the Superintendent of Norfolk Public Schools. She has led a community-wide strategic planning initiative for Norfolk Public Schools, which resulted in a new mission, vision, motto, and goals for the district. These can be found on this website under the Strategic Planning and Reports tab. Dr. Thompson also developed an Elementary Growth Plan to systematically address growing enrollments in an equitable fashion, and she established an ad-hoc committee to conduct a comprehensive review of Norfolk Public School athletic programs.

When not engaged in school and community activities, Dr. Thompson and her husband (Ron) enjoy traveling and visiting their family. They have two sons (Nick and Garrett) and one granddaughter (Adeline).
