About NPS

Norfolk Public Schools is a Class A school that serves 4300+ students, ranging in ages birth to 21 years old, in a district covering 68.8 miles (including Madison, Pierce, Stanton and Wayne counties). The school includes Little Panther Preschool, 7 Elementary School buildings, a Middle School (grades 5-6), a Junior High School (grades 7-8), and a High School (grades 9-12). Norfolk Public Schools exceeds all accreditation requirements of the Nebraska Department of Education and our Senior High has been accredited through AdvancED for over 100 years. Student test scores continue to climb and outperform state averages in many assessments given throughout the district. The graduation rate has improved dramatically in the past five years and several of our schools have received state and national awards for outstanding achievement.

Norfolk Public Schools has many great long-term strategies in place including a strong mission and vision, a comprehensive strategic plan and a highly effective instructional model.

Mission Statement: The mission of Norfolk Public Schools is to prepare all students to pursue their goals for the future.

Vision Statement: The vision of Norfolk Public Schools is to be a top-performing school that provides outstanding educational opportunities for every student and is a source of pride and an asset to our community.

Public education is no longer solely an 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. school day, and teaching is not limited to Kindergarten to 12th grade classes. Norfolk Public Schools offers before and after school activities, summer school enrichment programs, early childhood education, college and career readiness classes and experiences, advanced technology integrations, counseling services, individualized health plans, transition services, and the list goes on. Many of these educational programs did not even exist a few years ago, but now are critical to the success of students. Because Norfolk Public Schools is committed to providing outstanding educational opportunities for all students, we know our school district must continue to adapt to the needs of our students and our community. This requires our district to be flexible and creative, to best respond to students’ changing needs.

Some of the educational opportunities offered to NPS students include:

  • Little Panthers Preschool: offers half and full day early childhood education services provided by State of Nebraska certified teachers.

  • Lincoln Montessori Elementary School offers a child-centered, independent learning option for students K-4.

  • A High Ability Learner program to challenge students that excel in academics.

  • Comprehensive Special Education services including dedicated programs for students with autism and students needing life skills development.

  • Advanced technology integrations for all grade levels, with “one to one” integration at the Junior High and High School.

  • Advanced placement and dual credit courses offered through local colleges to give students a head-start on their college education.

  • Career Academies offered in 13 career fields such as health sciences, agriculture, construction, and drafting.

  • Alternatives for Success, an option designed for high school students seeking graduation outside the traditional classroom.

  • Aftershock is an after school and summer school program designed to extend learning opportunities beyond the traditional school day for students grades 5-8.

  • Sixpence supports children and parents during the baby and toddler years, prior to formal classroom education.

  • An extensive offering of before and after school extra-curricular activities including drama, art, sports, debate/speech, music, and many more.

We are on a mission to ensure that all students are prepared to pursue their goals for the future, and we are committed to ensuring that Nothing Prevents their Success!
