Norfolk Public Schools takes school safety seriously!
Please read the following information to see how you can help our school district ensure that all students have a safe place to learn and prepare for the future.
Fast, Easy, and Anonymous Reporting
Stay Connected - Students, staff, and parents can confidentially report safety concerns, including bullying, weapons, and threats of violence to school administration 24/7.
4-Way Notification - Safe Schools system allows you to report safety concerns by phone, text, email, and website.
Please Note: When reporting an alert, please keep in mind that while an anonymous tip is appropriate in some situations, it does make it more difficult for school administration to follow-up on the incident and provide feedback to the person(s) involved. Also, please be aware that any malicious intentional false reports will be taken very seriously and may result in consequences from school administration and/or law enforcement officials.
Standard Response Protocol (SRP)
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is a system of easy-to-follow instructions adopted by Norfolk Public Schools for emergency management. This protocol was developed by a Colorado-based foundation, I Love You Guys, and has been adopted by thousands of schools around the nation. By standardizing the vocabulary, all stakeholders can understand the response and status of the event. For students, this provides continuity of expectations and actions throughout their educational career. For teachers, this becomes a simpler process to train and drill. For first responders, the common vocabulary and protocols establish a greater predictability that persists through the duration of an incident. Parents can easily understand the practices and can reinforce the protocol. Additionally, this protocol enables rapid response determination when an unforeseen event occurs.
If a building is in a LOCKDOWN or LOCKOUT you will see these signs on your school building door. Please understand that these processes are in place for the safety of all students and staff of Norfolk Public Schools. Please be informed. NO EXCEPTIONS regarding school access will be made if signs are present.

Here is some additional information to help prepare yourself, or your child, in the event of an emergency:
Norfolk Public Schools' mission is to prepare students to pursue their goals for the future. One way we prepare students is by teaching them how to respond in an emergency situation. Being prepared and trained is important in all aspects of life. Tornado drills, fire drills, intruder drills, etc. are all ways that Norfolk Public Schools is preparing students with the skills to protect themselves in an emergency while at school, home, or another environment.
Parents: Please review safety practices at home. Please talk to your students about a potential school crisis or crisis at home. Encourage your student to know their address and phone number.
Students: Take the school drills seriously and use them as an opportunity to prepare yourself. Please talk to your teacher, principal, parent or trusted adult if you think something is suspicious or if you are concerned about school safety. Share information with your parents about your school safety preparedness training.
