First graders started out the year studying the work of artist Piet Mondrian. They viewed and discussed Mondrian’s most famous paintings that were created using squares, rectangles and primary colors only. After reviewing the elements of line, shape and color in art, the students created collages inspired by the master artist. The students did an exceptional job!

Grant Elementary students participated in two long-time holiday traditions during December. These traditions benefit our community and fill the students with pride and the sense of joy that comes from helping others.
Before leaving for Thanksgiving break, students were sent home with a large paper Christmas tree. Families were encouraged to decorate their tree and send it back to school…

It has been a long 2 years, but Miss Gleason's third graders and Mrs. Suckstorf's kindergarteners are teaming up again. The Buddy Classes got together to learn about the Character Kids and social skills. A book was read entitled Character Kids Save the Day! Then a third grader and a kindergartener were paired up and played a "Getting to Know You" board game. They got to practice their social skills…

Starting last year, seniors from Norfolk High School who have an open period in their schedule have volunteered to be paired with an elementary student whom they visit one day a week for 30 minutes. During this time, the partners play games, read books, and do crafts, forming a mentoring relationship. In this picture, Melanie works with Gracie to complete a craft project.

Apple Straws, apple butter, dried apples, homemade applesauce, and fresh apple slices brought smiles to the faces of Miss Cronin’s 2nd Graders throughout September. In reading, students read a variety of fiction and non-fiction texts about apples. We then tied in our science and text features by labeling a diagram showing the parts of an apple and another showing an apple’s life cycle from seed…

It has been a very busy beginning to the 2021 school year, and it only gets more fun and busy here on out. The students really enjoyed their football unit. Kindergarten students at Grant Elementary are loving the new Twig Science Curriculum. Pictured are students using magnifying glasses to help explore nature.
