What’s Happening in Mrs. Olenich’s Classroom

It’s hard to believe that spring is just around the corner.  We are all excited to be finished with the snow pants and boot season.  Do watch the weather to make sure your children are dressed appropriately for the ever changing weather.

There has been a great deal of teaching and learning happening in the classroom. The children have been working on clockwork, place value work, fractions, addition with carrying, subtraction with borrowing, money work and story problems.  It won’t be long until we are working on all aspects of measurement.  Any at home practice is always greatly appreciated since measurement is a challenging concept.

Our contract work with language and cultural has also been very busy.  We have also been journaling and writing super sentences.  The children are very busy on their contracts.  We have also covered five of the seven continents in our cultural studies.

February has been busy with Black History Month, Parent-Teacher Conferences, the Father-Daughter Dance, Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day and the Olympics. The “Coin Drive” was a huge success and that money was donated to Mercy Meals.  Thank you to all that helped to make these activities special.

March will also be busy.  We will discuss Nebraska’s Statehood Day which is March 1st, Dr. Seuss birthday on March 2nd and Read Across America.  There is also St. Patrick’s Day, and the Agricultural Literacy Festival (Life on the Farm) for the 2nd grade students on March 20th. There is never a dull moment in our classroom and school.

Feel free to stop in and visit.
