Changing Weather

Today is the first day of Autumn!  As we all know, weather in Nebraska can be unpredictable, conditions can change daily.  In the event that inclement weather should cause a delay in the start of school or the closing of school, we will continue to use the Infinite Campus calling system to share information with families as well as inform local news agencies.

If you have extra clothing in your student's back pack in case of accidents, you may want to change those out for warmer clothing at this time. Students who walk to school or are dropped off early before school starts should be dressed appropriately for cold temperatures and rainy/snowy conditions.  Proper outerwear should include boots, hats, gloves or mittens, a warm coat and even snow pants.  Please note that there is no supervision outside until 7:50 when teachers come on duty, and students will not enter the building until 8:00.  Please don't drop off students before 7:45 for their safety.

Questions about recess also come up.  At Norfolk Public Schools, principals use the following general guidelines for decision regarding outdoor recess:  regular outdoor recess will be held when outside air temperature and/or windchill is 10 degrees (F) or greater.  The presence of rain or snowfall can also influence this decision.
