4th Grade Students Tackle STEM Projects

Team-building. Problem-solving. Creative thinking. Hands-on learning. All of these are skills our Grant 4th graders have gained this year through the incorporation of monthly STEM projects. Each month, the students are challenged to complete an assigned task with various materials to encourage out-of-the-box thinking and problem solving. At the start of each task, students are given an end goal and a list of materials available to them. Students then individually develop a plan that they use when working collaboratively to design a final project with their team. The students were most recently challenged to create a turkey trap and a free-standing Christmas tree. It has been exciting to see the students develop their science, technology, engineering and math skills through these activities.
