Earth’s Forces in Second Grade

Grant 2nd graders explored the Earth’s forces in our recent reading unit.   Students learned many ways that Earth’s forces can affect us, including force, gravity, and speed.

Students had the opportunity to use magnets, as they learned about push and pull forces.  Students learned how to identify the north and south poles.

Second grade classrooms also welcomed Lee Sherry from the University of Nebraska Lincoln extension office to our rooms.  She presented on magnets. Students had the opportunity to sort and classify magnets and non-magnets. Students experimented with many types of magnets that quickly turned into their favorites, including magnet wands, crackling magnets, and even tennis balls that had magnets inside.  Students had many smiles as they experimented with a variety of magnets learning about the Earth’s forces.

Thank you to UNL extension for visiting our classrooms!
