What a busy start to the school year we have had! Here is just a few things we have been doing...
~ Math - We've been busy using the IXL website in class to help us strengthen our math skills. The students can access this website at home - please encourage them to log-on and learn! Recently we have started accessing the site on our new Chromebooks! HUGE thanks to the Norfolk Public Schools Foundation for helping Grant purchase these.
~ Reading - Our most recent reading unit focused on helping others in our community. This was a perfect time to talk about how much the United Methodist Church helps all of us at Grant. Some students have even thought of ways they can make a difference and are wanting to put these plans into action.
~ Writing - The students have been busy learning how to make their writing SPARKLE with the use of figurative language. We have been working with similes, metaphors, idioms, alliterations, and onomatopoeias. The students are having fun adding these to their writings.
~ Nebraska History - We have started discussing the different tribes that call Nebraska home. The students have had fun comparing the nomadic and farming tribes. They even got to make their own tipis.
~ Science - We are in the middle of our second unit which is giving us the opportunity to explore rocks and minerals. The kids have enjoyed bringing in rocks that they find interesting to share with their classmates. We then like working together to identify which type of rocks they are.
There is so much yet to do in the months to come as we continue to prepare for the writing test in January and MAPS and NeSA in March and April. We are very excited for the adventures that are ahead!
