Mrs. Boubin's Class Work on Fractions

Fractions have been the learning target in math for the third graders in Mrs. Boubin’s classroom this week. Students are learning key vocabulary like the denominator which is located below the fraction bar and shows the total number of equal parts. The numerator is on top of the fraction bar and shows how many equal parts are described. Students created some fractions with Lucky Charms and found fractions for their part of the whole box of cereal. The fractions were then compared to see if there were more marshmallows or pieces of cereal. Finally, the data was shown on a line plot to compare the various marshmallow shapes to see which shape was the most common. Students also were able to compare their data to others while enjoying a snack!
