Mrs. Rugg's Music Class

Students at Westside Elementary have been busy in music class. We will share some of the more recent highlights.

Fourth grade students have been learning the recorder. This instrument takes a lot of practice and concentration to play. The students have to control their air and finger placement all while reading music notes. The group has done amazingly well creating good tone.

Students in 2nd and 3rd grade have been experimenting with Boomwhackers. These are plastic tubes that vary in length and color. Each tube creates a different musical pitch. When students tap the tube on their lap, hand, or floor in a pattern, a song emerges! The class has been having fun playing holiday songs such as Jingle Bells, Deck the Hall, and We Wish You A Merry Christmas.

Students in Kindergarten and 1st grade have been movers and shakers! We play games that help our listening skills, as well as gross motor movement. These youngest students are enthusiastic singers and are learning how to play and respect the instruments.

Thank you for supporting music education in our schools!
