News from Washington's 2nd Grade

2nd graders were able to visit the zoo in September to observe animals in their habitats. The weather cooperated and we had many adult helpers go with us. Other topics we have completed in science include landforms and the reading of maps.

We are piloting a new math series - iReady. It is challenging us to use math to solve problems, not just learn facts. The students like the technology component that lets them move along a path designed for each student.

Our reading series has also been updated. We are learning how reading and writing are connected and have been doing a great deal of each.

We are learning about various holidays and will be studying how other countries celebrate winter holidays. We will make gingerbread houses as part of that study.

We have been so busy that it’s hard to believe that we are almost halfway through 2nd grade! We wish you all a great holiday break!
