Aftershock: Summer Program

Summer Success!

In the first summer of Aftershock, there were nearly 150 students who signed up and attended. Aftershock provided students with the opportunity to be involved in entrepreneur, science, fitness, art, craft, community service, photography, robotics, and many other activities.

The students were positive and engaged throughout the summer program, and they were able to participate in several activities that were not available in other areas of the community. Aftershock was supported by the Madison County Extension office, as they came in to run a nutrition program. Nucor Detailing sent several staff members to facilitate our first Intro to Robotics Club. We were also fortunate enough to take our students on tours of the Norfolk Daily News, US92/94 Rock, 106 Kix/WJAG/Lite Rock 97.5, MP Global Products, Green Fiber, Big Red Printing, and Northeast Community College. Thanks to the generous support of businesses, Aftershock was a great success, and the students had a great time.

Several of our students also participated in Community Service Clubs. The students served meals with the Salvation Army and packaged food. They packaged hundreds of meals at Mercy Meals, made tie blankets for children, made cards for veterans, picked up trash at local parks, and helped at Puppy Love. These students showed great character and were a great help to the organizations that they served. Thank you to all of these students for your hard work to help others.

These are only a few highlights of the activities in which the students participated, and there are many stories that could be shared. All this to say, Aftershock has been successful because of the great students, businesses/organizations, teachers, staff, and other community members. Thank you to everyone who helped on the front lines or in the background. Aftershock would not be what it is without you.
