Lincoln Montessori Art News

Art at Lincoln Montessori Elementary school in 2020 has been a blast! The health concerns have been an extra challenge, but going mobile with “Art on a Cart” and taking extra precautions to sanitize have made it possible to continue on and have a great time. When there is uncertainty in the world, students need extra opportunities to relax and express themselves creatively and Art Class is the perfect place to do that.

Each class has excelled at creating beautiful pieces of art as well as learning to work together collaboratively. I have been utterly impressed by the level of natural talent in the students, but their social and emotional development is most important to me. Art Class is a great place for students to learn how to support each other in a non-threatening environment and it’s been encouraging to see the students improve in this area each week.

Over the last few weeks, both Kindergarten classes have completed Picasso inspired tree drawings and “Shape Man” projects that are now being proudly displayed. (See Picture) Now these students are working together on owl collages that will hopefully be finished by Christmas.

The First and Second grade classes completed delightful twilight pumpkins (see picture) projects and are currently working on spectacular cityscapes to be displayed soon!

Both Third and Fourth grade classes have completed intricate “Warm and Cool Tree” drawings based off the work of Loretta Grayson (see picture) and are currently wrapping up Henna inspired hand drawings.

In all, the students have been uplifted by the opportunity for creative expression in Art Class each week and hopefully art will continue to be a source of comfort and enjoyment for them throughout their lives!
