Montessori Music News

The students have been very busy this first quarter learning many new skills. Kindergarten
boys and girls have been learning about: melody and how it can move, high and low, tempo,
soft and loud, steady beat, rhythm, and voice choice. They also know how to clap and play simple rhythm patterns in stick notation. They are practicing to be active listeners. Way to go Kindergarten!

Students in first and second grades are learning to: read music notation, recognize notes and symbols, as well as reviewing skills. They enjoy singing, doing actions to songs, playing instruments, and participating in movement activities. One October favorite was a rhythm
activity called Pass the Pumpkin. They are really good at this! Keep up the great music
work!

Students in third and fourth grades have been learning how to sing in two and three part canons. They also are learning to sing using solfege and are doing an awesome job! The students had fun practicing an ostinato while learning The Ghost of John.
Our composer spotlight was F.J.Haydn with students learning how to follow a listening map to
the Surprise Symphony. Super job third and fourth grades!
