Sharing Private Information with Others

Sharing Private Information of Others

Get permission before sharing information about others.

Everyone today is interested in protecting their private information.  We should never share our full names, birthdays, home or school address or name of school with strangers.  We also should never give out usernames or passwords to friends and family to share. We also want to avoid posting pictures online that might give strangers clues to where we live.  So, if we’re being so careful with our own information, shouldn’t we use the same care with other people’s private information?

When posting online, we should always ask ourselves the purpose of posting information.  Are we taking care not to upset others or cause them harm by posting information that we may have no right to share with the world?  Don’t post information or pictures of people, unless they have given you permission to share. They might not appreciate seeing an unflattering picture or seeing the comments that others may make.  You should also not “tag” others in pictures, if they haven’t given you permission to do so. They may not want to attract attention from people who visit your social page. Be kind and considerate when posting information about others.
