Ms. Bennett's Art Class

Greetings from the art room!  It’s the end of September and art production is in full swing here at Lincoln Elementary.  Kindergarteners most always create artworks inspired by master artists.  They just completed their Paul Klee inspired doodle art and are now in progress creating an autumn tree collage to celebrate the season!

1st and 2nd grade combo classes are currently learning the colors of the rainbow with our good friend ROY G BIV (the acronym used to remember the colors in order).  After sharing some pretty interesting things about rainbows, our attention turned to a thought provoking question. What would ROY G BIV look like if he was a real person?  Students are now working on ROY G BIV portraits utilizing collage techniques along with markers to complete the artwork.  Those will be going up on the walls so if you get curious as to what Mr. BIV might look like, check out the display on the second floor soon.

3rd graders are close to finishing up their “crazy hair day” self portraits.  I like assigning this lesson at the beginning of the year.  It is an excellent review for many of the skills we worked on last year and the students seem to really enjoy doing it.  This is an art project that challenges their creativity and imagination with subject matter that focuses on humor.

4th grade began the year with a history lesson on mosaic art.  We looked at various mosaics from antiquity to present day and how the process of creating them changed though out time.  After discussing the history of this amazing art form, the students were directed to create their own mosaic of a horse, using paper as our medium.  This project will take a little time but the final piece will be well worth it!

As you can see, art classes have been busy!  We have very creative students here at Lincoln school and I am proud and honored to have the opportunity to help them grow as artists!
