Greetings from the Montessori Music Department! Kindergarten students have been very busy learning many new things. They are really good at recognizing, writing, and playing rhythm patterns using stick notation! They also enjoy seasonal songs with actions and movement. One of our favorites is a counting song in English and Spanish! Very soon they will be introduced to Peter and the Wolf, a fairy tale from Russia.
First and second grades have been busy learning about pitch and body direction. The students discovered that pitches can be called mi, re, and do. They are really good at singing “Mother, Mother” from our music books! The students enjoy reading, singing, playing instruments, finding the steady beat and rhythm in their songs.
Third and fourth grades continue keeping busy! Third grade students completed a unit on learning the line and space notes of the treble clef. They enjoyed many activities including making awesome valentines with musical messages! They finished by taking a test over the material. Fourth grade students completed a unit on instruments of the orchestra. They enjoyed participating in many activities: learning to sing a cumulative song in English and Spanish, categorizing, listening, and playing Instrument Trivia as a review for their assessment. Next on the agenda – You guessed it – Recorders!
