MONTESSORI MUSIC NEWS
Kindergarten students have been very busy in music class! They are learning about a Children's Classic Russian Fairy Tale -Peter and the Wolf. The students are discovering that instrument sounds can match with the characters in the story. We read the book, did a matching activity and watched the movie of Peter and the Wolf. They have been learning about how music can make high, middle, and low sounds. They are really good at recognizing these sounds! The students also enjoy singing seasonal songs with actions!
First and second grade students have been learning about the four families of unpitched instruments that we have right in our music room! We made our very own music stores with shelves on paper. They colored, cut out, and glued their instrument cards on their shelves into categories: Woods, Metals, Drums, Scrapers and Shakers. They also enjoy singing our Patriotic songs!
Third grade students have been busy learning about the lines and spaces of the treble clef. They completed a music packet to practice many skills: note recognition, writing, and decoding notes into musical spelling words. They also had fun making musical valentine messages and working together in groups as they visited music learning centers! They do an awesome job singing solfege!
Fourth grade students are studying about the four families of the orchestra and have been working on many activities: Instrument Memory, Instrument Trivia, and learning to follow a listening map just to name a few. They are looking forward to begin our recorder unit soon! They also learned a new song "In the Market of San Juan" that we sang in Spanish and English. The students are doing an excellent
job singing canons and reviewing solfege!
