Ms. Bonner's Art News

The art room has been buzzing with energy as our student artists kicked off the school year with an exciting, hands-on project: Artist Trading Cards.

Artist trading cards are miniature, custom pieces of artwork created on small cardstock "canvases." Each student designs their artwork on the front, transforming a tiny surface into a personal masterpiece, then writes their name, class code and title of their piece on the back. Once finished, students face a choice: they can proudly keep their original creation or head over to our classroom trading board to swap cards with their peers. This interactive process teaches valuable concepts about art collection, artistic choice, community building and encourages them to create art outside of art class!

As we open up new studio centers throughout the year, students are expanding their technique—using everything from collage materials to paints to customize their cards. The creative freedom doesn't stop at the classroom door, either! Students are encouraged to take blank cards home to work on during their free time and bring them back to trade during their next art class.  Family members are welcome to join in the fun as well!  If your child forgot to bring blank cards home, you can create your own by cutting any paper to the size of 2.5 x 3.5 inches and create with whatever supplies you have at home!

Seeing the sheer excitement, passion, and collaborative spirit these young artists bring to the art room has been an absolute joy. Keep an eye out for these mini masterpieces making their way home!
