From the Music Room

I am excited to be back for my second year at Jefferson Elementary teaching music!  Students are just beginning to prepare songs for the upcoming winter concert.  The winter concert is scheduled for Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at the Johnny Carson Theater located at Norfolk High School.  The concert will start at 6:30 p.m. and students are requested to be there by 6:20 p.m.  Looking forward to sharing a night of music and fun with everyone!

Third and fourth graders have started working with recorders!  I love watching the students learn and grow during this time.  It amazes me how much joy and pleasure they have at mastering a new skill and or a new song.  Besides the obvious growth in music skills, learning to play the recorder helps with brain development, improved motor skills and social skills like patience and playing with others.  The school owns enough recorders for a class set, but students are encouraged to purchase their own.  The recorders are sanitized before the next student uses them.  Students wanting to purchase their own recorder can go to Midwest Music, downtown Norfolk and the cost is $6.44.

Musically Yours,
