Earth’s Forces in Second Grade

Grant 2nd graders explored the Earth’s forces in our recent reading unit.   Students learned many ways that Earth’s forces can affect us, including force, gravity, and speed.  

Students had the opportunity to use magnets, as they learned about push and pull forces.  Students learned how to identify the north and south poles.

Kindergarten Experiments with Magnets

Mrs. Commerford’s kindergartners at Grant School experimented with magnets thanks to Madison County Service Unit #8. The Unit has lessons that teachers can use for their classrooms. The lessons include a helper who comes in with materials and presents the lessons. How lucky Madison county students are to have these available to use.

Grant Students Help Local Animal Shelter

Grant Elementary spent the end of the first semester at war! A Penny War that is! This is the second year that grade levels have competed with each other to see who could bring the most pennies. Students were able to bring pennies for their containers to add positive points. However, the fun was really in sabotaging other grade levels’ totals by placing silver coins (negative points) in their containers.…

2021-2022 Kindergarten Registration

We are beginning to register students who will be entering kindergarten during the 2021-2022 school year. Parents may register during the hours of 8:00 am - 4:00 pm at the Grant School office. A child must reach the age of five years old on or before July 31, 2021 to be eligible to enter Kindergarten in the public schools. How Do Plants Change as They Grow?

The first graders in Mrs. Morgan's class have been working on answering the question " How do plants change as they grow?" They read many informational texts during our Wonders Reading whole group and small group. The first graders were also able to become gardeners! They planted radish seeds. Mystical Dragons

In ART, first grade students created these wonderfully colored dragons. They began the lesson by looking at several images of dragons. We talked about the history, legend and importance of the dragon in certain cultures. Through direct instruction, the students drew the basic shapes of the dragon's body. Third graders from Grant got INSANE over Science!

Students attended the INSANE Science Event at the Madison County Fairgrounds.  This event was put on by the Nebraska Extension.   

The students were scientists for the morning.  They learned about erosion, how Ozobots worked, made bubbles, explored with MakerSpace, listened to a presentation on Space Exploration, and read the book I Wonder about science.
