Stopping Traffic Safely

4th Grade Safety Patrol students at Grant must show they are trustworthy and make good decisions. They are trained on how to step off the curb and show drivers their stop sign, in order to safely cross Grant students after school. Students look both ways for cars to stop, then they look again! It is an important responsibility to help students cross the street safely. Thank you Safety Patrol and…

Fractions in Fourth Grade!

A new year means the 4th grade has begun their learning journey with fractions. Fractions are fantastic because students started with exploring the concept of “equal parts” with different shapes before moving onto real world situations. Students have daily opportunities to share and discuss their thinking. Precise language is essential to building student understanding of fractions. The 4th graders…

Growth Mindset

This quarter, Grant elementary students are learning how to have a growth mindset at our morning meetings. Each week, we learn a mindset mantra, starting with, "I can't do this... YET!" We have learned that if something is difficult, we shouldn't just give up and say, "I can't do this!" Instead, we should recognize that learning is a process, so we can add "YET" to the end of that sentence, and…

One Book, Grant School in Full Swing

Grant families are keeping warm this winter by snuggling up with a great book! Each family was given a copy of Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo. One chapter is assigned to be read each night at home. Teachers discuss the story and ask fun trivia questions during the school day. When the book is finished, Grant School will raffle off some exciting prizes. We hope to promote the love of reading…

December Happenings!

December has been a month filled with opportunities to show what we have learned. With procedures in place, we are able to break out new ways to review and stretch our brains. This prepares us for this month’s season of semester testing. Grant students encouraged one another to do their best by creating special notes of encouragement for each other. Kindergarten students attached their notes to…

Surprise Assembly at Grant Elementary

The exciting news that was broadcasted live in our school assembly was that Grant Elementary…

Thank you, FUMC! You mean a lot to the Grant family! In these photos, volunteer Alice leads a language…

Keeping the beat with instruments and apples

One of the most important foundations of a student’s musicianship is learning to maintain and follow a steady beat.  It is so important for playing and singing together in a group!  In elementary music, especially the primary grades, we practice this A LOT. To keep students engaged and make it fun I use a variety of songs, games, props and instruments.  Here you see first graders playing a favorite…
