In third grade, reading takes on new dimensions. Students transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Students dive into a variety of genres, from personal narratives to informative texts. This quarter, we’ve encouraged a love for reading by exploring stories that reflect diverse backgrounds and foster discussions that highlight different cultures and traditions. By engaging in group readings and storytelling sessions, our third graders learn to appreciate the narratives that shape our communities.
Mathematics: Subtracting with Regrouping
One of the exciting challenges in math this year has been mastering subtraction with regrouping. We emphasize the importance of trying new things and not being afraid of making mistakes. Culture plays a significant role in our classroom. We’ve been celebrating our favorite parts of our cultural heritage through various activities. Students’ stoma growled as they shared about their favorite traditional foods, showcasing family favorites. From festive clothing to lively music, each child brings a piece of their culture into the classroom, creating a rich, collaborative environment. Special days are marked on our calendar, where we honor traditions that unite us, fostering a sense of belonging and pride.
Acknowledging Achievements
This week, we got excited to congratulate Mrs. Shaver’s class for earning a popcorn party as a reward for perfect attendance. Their commitment to being present at school not only sets a wonderful example but also contributes to our community’s spirit. Simultaneously, Mrs. Coffin’s class celebrated the numerous compliments received for the adherence to classroom and school procedures. These acknowledgments boost morale and encourage a positive learning environment.
