Grant Students Help Local Animal Shelter

Grant Elementary spent the end of the first semester at war! A Penny War that is! This is the second year that grade levels have competed with each other to see who could bring the most pennies. Students were able to bring pennies for their containers to add positive points. However, the fun was really in sabotaging other grade levels’ totals by placing silver coins (negative points) in their containers. It was a close competition, but when a truce was finally called the Kindergarten classes were victorious!

Even though the Kindergarten students came out on top, the real winners were the animals at the Animal Shelter of Northeast Nebraska. Half of all the proceeds from the penny war were donated to the shelter. Students were very excited to give much-needed supplies to a shelter representative during an assembly in December.
