2nd Graders Study the Life Cycle of Pumpkins

Throughout the month of October, second graders at Grant Elementary have learned about the life cycle of pumpkins. Students have read non-fiction/expository text about pumpkins. Students got to be authors and illustrators and create their own pumpkin life cycle books. Students learned about different text features of non-fiction books and even applied labels to their illustrations. Students got to experiment with candy pumpkins and complete a science experiment. What happens to that candy pumpkin when added to different liquids? Second-graders at Grant Elementary can now tell you some of our candy pumpkins disappeared! Second graders also cleaned out a pumpkin, but they did not carve a traditional jack-o’-lantern. Instead, they started the life cycle over by planting pumpkin seeds back into the pumpkin. With soil, water, and sunlight, soon the pumpkin life cycle may be growing in our classroom!
