HIGH ABILITY LEARNERS PROGRAM
Greetings from the Grant High Ability Learners classroom! High Ability Learners are chosen for participation because of their high academic abilities in Math and Reading or both. Students in the program come to the H.A.L.classroom every Monday for 45 minutes and receive advanced lessons in Language/Social Studies and Math/Science which are provided as a learning extension to grade level curriculum. In addition to advanced curriculum lessons, students also participate in Leadership Activities emphasizing good manners, listening skills, and good sportsmanship. Our curriculum choices are guided by the Nebraska State Education standards, as well as, the standards set by The National Association of the Gifted which outlines the needs of gifted learners. Parents of gifted learners may enjoy visiting the National Association of the Gifted website which provides insights and resources for these advanced students. We have been exploring individual student strengths with the Multiple Intelligences Survey and Interest Inventories. We also asked students to find out what country/countries their ancestors came from before living in the United States and we will be using the information during our World Map study lessons. Once again, I will be offering an optional Book Club for our 4th grade students during the months of November and February held at their lunch/recess time on Monday, when I am at Grant. More information will be coming home to 4th grade parents regarding this optional Book Club. It is joy to come to Grant every week and a pleasure to be working with such a talented and motivated group of students!
