First Grade News
Wow! We have a great group of First Graders at Grant! The students have been working hard at Reading Mastery and Connections. It has been wonderful to see the improvements in their reading fluency and pacing.
In Math, the first graders have worked hard on graphing, patterns, triangles, vertices, angles, some, some more and some, some went away story problems and number sentences. We also continue to work on fact fluency. We are getting good at doubles and adding one to another number. As a matter of fact, we get additional practice at home every night since adding another fact homework paper. We want to thank our parents for checking homework every night and making sure that it is returned on time.
Mrs. Morgan and Mrs. Baker's First Grade classes are enjoying our Non-fiction Scholastic Science Readers. We have been learning about plant, insect and animal life cycles. Of course, the sunflowers were a big hit. We are currently in the process of cleaning up our garden and getting it ready for next spring.
Our first writing assessment of the year went very well. We were proud of the student's handwriting, topic sentences, use of transition words, main idea sentences with explain (pink it up) sentences, indenting, and conclusion sentences. We were impressed by their writing abilities this early in the school year.
