Norfolk Career Academies Now Taking Applications!

The application process has begun for students interested in the Agriculture, Automotive, Construction, Drafting or Health Science Academies. Online applications can be found on the        Norfolk Career Academy website. Selection into one of the Career Academies will be based on several criteria and applications for the limited academy spots will be reviewed in the order they are submitted. Once students are accepted into a Career Academy they will work with their guidance counselor and the Norfolk Career Academy coordinator to schedule their core and Career Academy course plan.

The Norfolk Career Academies were created as an opportunity to bring career awareness and education to our students in a time of need for our local and state workforce. Elective courses in a career area are strategically sequenced in a 4-course program of study that allows students to progress through the academy while continuing to take their core requirements. Ideally, students will begin taking Career Academy courses as a freshman or sophomore and will continue with their program of study during their junior year and finishing their Career Academy coursework with their senior "capstone" course.

Students in a Career Academy will have the opportunity to participate in a Career Student Organization specific to the Career Academy program in which they belong. For example, our Automotive, Construction, Drafting and Health Science Academy students will participate in activities offered through Norfolk Senior High's Skills USA program. Our Agriculture Academy students will participate in activities offered in the FFA program.

Student success within the Career Academies will rely on a true team effort. Support and effort must come from the students, classmates, parents, teachers, administrators and the community, which our higher education and business leaders will play a large role. The goal of the Career Academies and our higher education and business partners is to equip our students with the resources, knowledge and skills our local and state businesses need to thrive in a 21st century economy while providing our students with good paying jobs in a career that they are passionate about!
