No Homework Pilot Program

Dear Parents and Families:

All of the elementary buildings throughout the Norfolk Public School district will be doing something different with homework this year. Research continues to NOT indicate significant benefits of having homework at the elementary level. We believe that when students give us all of their day, they deserve to have all of their night. Therefore, we will not be formally assigning homework this year.

Please note: If a student exhibits off-task behaviors during the school day and fails to complete an assignment when adequate class time has been provided, the assignment will be sent home for completion.

We hope that this new procedure will allow you to spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success:

  • Eat dinner as a family and ask them how their day was

  • Read together

  • Play outside

  • Get your child to bed early

We know that your child is working hard at school each day and they have earned their evening playtime!

Thank you!
